Puri Rath Yatra 2026 Traffic Routes, Parking Spots and Police Guidelines

Puri Rath Yatra 2026 is scheduled for July 16 (Thursday) – this is the main Gundicha Jatra. Here is the complete traffic, parking and police advisory released by Puri Police and District Administration:

1. Traffic Routes – How to enter Puri

Puri Police has issued entry and exit routes to avoid congestion on Grand Road:

From Bhubaneswar side (NH-316):

  • All interstate buses and heavy vehicles will be stopped and parked at Malatipatpur Bus Stand on the outskirts.
  • Regular passenger buses: Malatipatpur ROB -> Baidas Nagar Chhak -> Grid Station Chhak -> Bhoodan Chhak -> Talabania Temporary Bus Stand
  • Return route: Grid Station -> Balighat -> Gopalpur -> Samangara -> Biraharekrushnapur Bazar -> Batagaon
  • LMVs / Four-wheelers: Same corridor up to Talabania side via Malatipatpur ROB, Baidas Nagar, Grid Station

From Konark side:

  • Buses: Baidas Nagar Square -> Grid Station -> Bhoodan Square -> Talabania
  • Four-wheelers: Park at Indoor Stadium, ITI, Helipad via same route

From Brahmagiri side:

  • Buses: Mangalaghat bypass -> Malatipatpur ROB -> Baidas Nagar -> Grid Station -> Bhoodan -> Talabania
  • Four-wheelers: Park at Yatrika and Nolia field

Local movement inside Puri:

  • Auto-rickshaws will ply only between Talabania – Ram Mandir and Malatipatpur – Atharanala
  • Two-wheelers from Bhubaneswar side: park at Jagannath Ballav, Jail Road, Matitota field
  • Two-wheelers from Konark side: park at Blue Flag Beach, Hotel Neelachal Ashoka, near Holiday Resort

Puri Police has also deployed 244 CCTV, 3 drones, 1,645 traffic signages (595 permanent + 1,050 temporary), and 2 mobile LED display vans on Uttara-Lingipur and Bhubaneswar corridor for real-time updates

2. Parking Spots – 30 designated lots in 2026

This year 6 new lots were added, taking total to 30 lots – 22 for four-wheelers (7,730 capacity), 4 for two-wheelers (15,000 capacity), and 4 for buses (750 buses). New lots: Bhudan, Central School, Central School Back Side, Taj, Samanga and Shree Setu adding 2,100 capacity.

Samanga, Near Central School (SCS College area), Inside Central School, Shree Setu Circular Field, Bhudan, Jail Road / Purushottam Parking (contingency), ITI College, Helipad, Horticulture Parking, OLA Guest House, Talabania Fish Market & adjoining field, Indoor Stadium, Sterling Chhak Parking (Shani Temple side), Near Taj Hotel, Sterling Chhak Below-Road, Sterling Chhak towards Hotel Sterling, Saradhabali Parking, Swosti to Sterling Road

Pass holder parking: JBPC, Yatrika, Loknath and Nail Field

Private security guards will manage parking lots while police manage traffic.

3. No-Vehicle Zone

Declared from 12:00 am July 16 to 12:00 am July 17, 2026 around Grand Road and temple connecting roads:

  • Jhadeswari Chhak to Hospital Crossing
  • Jail Road Parking to Hospital Crossing
  • Brushava Chhak to Sri Jagannath Temple
  • Solakhia Baragachha Chhak to Sri Jagannath Temple
  • Mochisahi Chhak to Sri Jagannath Temple
  • Yatrika Parking to Digabareni Chhak

Beyond 98 human-only entry points, no vehicles will be allowed towards Badadanda.

4. Police Guidelines & Security
  • ∼12,000 personnel in 3-tier land-sea-air deployment, 200 Executive Magistrates. Other reports mention 10,000+ personnel with AI cameras and NSG snipers.
  • NSG Black Cat Commandos, Anti-Terrorist Squad, Special Tactical Unit, RAF, ODRAF, NDRF at critical points
  • No-fly zone: Drones, helicopters, low-flying objects banned over Badadanda and Temple premises. Anti-drone systems active. Unauthorized drones are being seized. Coast Guard + Navy on standby with aerial reconnaissance

Tips for you coming from Bhubaneswar: Leave early, use Malatipatpur parking and shuttle/auto from there. Avoid trying to drive to Grand Road, the no-vehicle zone starts midnight. Keep your Puri Police app notifications on for SMS alerts.
