Facebook Instagram Outage
Facebook Instagram Outage
What happened:
On Sunday afternoon IST, Facebook, Instagram and Messenger went down globally. Desktop/web was hit hardest — people got “Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue” / “Account Temporarily Unavailable” when trying to log in.
The issues included login failures, feed not loading, stories/posts stuck, and “Something Went Wrong” errors. Downdetector logged a massive spike — over 62,000 reports for Facebook and 8,000+ for Instagram by mid-morning US time, with 4,800+ US Facebook reports and 2,800+ Instagram reports alone. India, US, UK, Europe, Singapore, UAE all reported it.
The pattern was unusual: mobile apps continued working for many people while desktop web was down.
Is it fixed now?
Downdetector data showed complaints plummeted back to baseline levels later on July 19, indicating the global outage had resolved. By 3:37pm on the 19th UAE time, only a handful of reports were left.
So if you’re seeing issues today July 20 in Kolkata, try:
Hard refresh / log out and back in
Clear cache or try mobile app — mobile stayed up for most users
Check if it’s account-specific — yesterday Meta said it was a site issue, not a suspension
People were definitely feeling it — on social, posts showed users saying “Can’t refresh feed!”, “Login failed”, “Not again!” and locally confirming “Yes for 30 minutes” and “I’m facing more problems on Instagram today”.
