MBBS Admission Process in India
Admission to MBBS in India is a multi-step process centered around a single national entrance exam.
- Qualify NEET-UG: A valid score in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), conducted by the NTA, is mandatory for every MBBS seat in India, including government, private, and deemed universities-.
- Register for Counselling: After the results, you must register for counselling. This happens at two levels:
- All India Quota (AIQ): Conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for 15% of seats in government colleges, all seats in central universities (like AIIMS, JIPMER), and deemed universities-.
- State Quota: Conducted by the respective state authorities for the remaining 85% of government college seats and private college seats within the state.
- Choice Filling & Seat Allotment: During counselling, you must fill in your preferred colleges and courses. Seats are then allotted based on your NEET rank, category, and choices filled.
- Document Verification & Reporting: If a seat is allotted, you must report to the college with original documents for verification and pay the admission fee to confirm your seat
Note: The MCC has introduced changes for 2026, including an online seat withdrawal facility and no physical reporting for upgradation-.
