1. First Citizens Bank buys Entire Silicon Valley Bank:
. America’s biggest bank First Citizens Bank acquires all loans and deposits of Silicon Valley Bank
(SVB) on March 27, 2023.
.The deal was locked for worth $110 billion in assets, $56 billion of deposits and loans of $72 billion.
.This was done after the banking system collapsed recently. This is in line with the downturn of
the economy across the globe.
2. PMModi’s Addressal at One World TB Summit:
.PM Narendra Modi arrived at Varanasi to lay out the foundation stone of several projects of a proposal worth over Rs 1,780 crores.
.One World TB Summit was held at Rudrakash Convention Centre. This was jointly organised by
the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Stop TB Partnership.
. The Prime Minister awarded particular states and districts for putting efforts towards eradicating Tuberculosis across India.
3. Salima Tete designated as AHF Athlete Ambassador:
. Indian hockey player Salima Tere has recently been made the Athlete Ambassador of AHF (Asian Hockey Federation).
.Her appointment is for two years which will begin on March 25, 2023. Her work will now be to enhance awareness regarding athletes’ rights and their overall welfare in the region.
. She accepted the prestigious position during the Congress that was held in Mungyeong, Korea.
4. National Humanity Medal to Mindy Kaling:
Indian American Actress plus Producer Mindy Kaling has been honoured with the esteemed
National Humanity Medal by US President Joe Biden.
. Along with her, various others were given the awards as it recognizes the contributions of such
strong voices among storytellers.
.The National Medal of Arts is regarded as the highest level of award. These are often bestowed
upon artists, art patrons, and groups by the US government.
5. NGEL Collaborated with IOCL for Renewable Energy Projects:
NTPC Green Energy Limited has signed a pact with Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in order
to establish Renewable Energy Projects. This is in line with the current growing needs of IOCL
Refineries.
. Through this Joint Venture Agreement, the NGEL has a rewarding target of generating about 60
GW of clean energy by 2032.
. Green energy business will be rigorously taken up in next coming years. Many senior officials from both organisations attended the event.
6. UBS Group buys Credit Suisse & restores Financial Stability:
.Global Power USB Bank acquires Credit Suisse’s banking systems for 3.25 billion dollars. This deal was done to recover from the global banking crisis.
.Switzerland’s Credit Suisse Bank faced multi-billion losses in the past few years.
.The deal has been finalised to save international finances after the historical bank failuresrecently. UBS Chairperson that it intends to save $7 billion by 2027.
. Startup20 Engagement Group to Begin in Sikkim:
Under India’s G20 Presidency, the Startup20 Engagement Group meeting will commence
tomorrow i.e. March 18, 2023, in Gangtok, Sikkim. This will be the second meeting and will conclude on March19.
.The two-day conference will have delegates fromG20 member countries across the world.
.At the inception meeting, 3 taskforces will be included namely Foundation & Alliances, Finances and Inclusion & Sustainability.
8. RBI, UAE’s Central Bank signs MoU to promote Innovation:
.The Reserve Bank of India and the Central Bank of UAE jointly sign an official agreement for
encouraging Innovation in financial products and services.
.Central Banks will altogether survey the Central Bank Digital Currencies and will also draw
comparability between the CBDCs of CBUAE and RBI.
.Pilot tests will be held to provide cross-border transactions. Through this initiative, the
economic ties will deepen between India and UAE.
9. GPT-4 introduced by AI-based Company OpenAI:
.OpenAI has recently launched the advanced model of ChatGPT titled GPT-4. This new
multimodal technological system is integrated with API (Application Programming Interfaces).
.Several businesses widely use these chatbots in their customer interaction tools. After GPT, GPT-
2 and GPT-3, this latest version will be providing features that no other chatbot includes so far.
.GPT-4 can do creative and technical writing with users including music composition, screenplay writing, etc.
10. Chevron Corp and HPCL join hands for Marketing Products:
.Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) signs an accord to produce, distribute and
promote lubricants of one of the largest companies in the world, Chevron.
.The collaboration includes manufacturing, licensing as well as distribution of Chevron products
under the Caltex Brand. Chevron’s other ventures like Havoline and Delo products are also
covered in the pact.
.HCL already holds its own labels having lubricant products and this initiative is an add-on to its
list. It is a long-term trademark agreement.
11. Home Ministry announces 10% Reservation for ‘Ex-Agniveers’:
.The Central Government has declared 10 per cent reservation criteria which will be granted to
Ex-Agniveers in the BSF (Border Security Force) Recruitment.
.As per the official notice by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the government has made some
amendments to the recruitment rules of BSF.
. Ex-Agniveers will be given an exemption in Physical Efficiency Test. Also, up to 5 years of relaxation in the upper age limit will be given to the first new batch.
12. Ram Chandra Poudel elected as Nepal’s 3rd President:
. Nepalese Politician Ram Chandra Poudel wins the Presidential Elections of the country. It was
the third election this time since Nepal became Republic in the year 2008.
.This newly elected President received 214 votes from congressmen while 352 votes were given
by Provisional assembly members.
.Nepali Congress Chief Sher Bahadur Deuba congratulated this senior leader of the party now
selected for the Presidential post.
13. BSE, UNWomen jointly introduce ‘FinEMPOWER’:
.Bombay Stock Exchange along with India’s UNWomen collaborated to launch a new programme
named ‘FinEMPOWER’. There is a need to encourage women entrepreneurs as they contribute
to today’s emerging economies across the world.
.This initiative has been taken in order to empower and support women towards financial
security, memorizing the upcoming International Women’s Day.
The MD and CEO of BSE, Mr Sundararaman Ramamurthy and Ms Susan Ferguson, Country
Representative of UN Women India call for gender equality. They highlight demographic and gender diversity.
14. India’s First Indigenous Aircraft INS Vikrant Joins Indian Navy:
The first edition of the Naval Commanders’ Conference was held today i.e. March 06, 2023.
Indigenous Aircraft Carrier INS Vikrant dispatched.
Top naval officers initiate various Navy activities and are briefed upon the Agnipath Scheme.
The conference is a programme which aims to address important security issues in the military.
Navy Chief Admiral H Hari Kumar and other naval commanders will conduct a probe into
Logistics, Human Resource Department, etc.
15. WorldWildlife Day 2023:
On March 3, every year World Wildlife Day is celebrated in order to raise awareness of the
preservation of diverse wildlife.
.In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared March 3 as the observation of
the day. This year, its theme is ‘Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation’.
. Wildlife contributions are immeasurable in respect of the ecosystem which is managed through
the sustenance of all wild species and living organisms on Earth. With Wildlife Conservation, the
wild and their habitats are restored and protected.
16. Dinesh K Tripathi Becomes NewWestern Naval Command Chief:
Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi took charge as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western
Naval Command on February 28, 2023.
. Previously, he served as the Signal Communications Officer and Electronics Warfare Officer and
undertook several missions.
. He has replaced Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh who is a retired military official and has
been a part of this field for 4 decades.
