NCET Syllabus Details

NCET (National Common Entrance Test) Syllabus Details (based on the 2026 official pattern released by NTA; expected to remain largely similar for future cycles such as 2027).

The exam is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) of 180 minutes. Candidates attempt 160 questions out of approximately 181. Marking is typically +4 for correct answers and –1 for incorrect ones.

1. Languages (Choose any 2)

There are 38 language options (codes 101–223), including English, Hindi, Odia, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Sanskrit, and several foreign/regional languages (Arabic, French, German, Chinese, etc.), plus “English for Communication” and “Hindi for Communication”.

There are 26+ domain options (codes 301–326). Syllabus is based primarily on the Class 12 NCERT curriculum.

  2. Assessment — Importance of assessment; types (assessment of/as/for learning); inclusive evaluation (especially for special needs students).
  3. Classroom Management — Classroom behaviour, cooperative/collaborative learning, positive discipline, active & engaged classroom, inclusive classroom, time management, handling disruptive behaviour.
  4. Role and Responsibilities of a Teacher — Personal and professional characteristics; values and morals from ancient tradition; guru-shishya parampara; ethics of the teaching profession; teacher as facilitator and co-learner.
  5. Awareness of recent educational initiatives — RPWD Act 2016, NEP 2020, NCFFS-2022, NCFSE-2023, schemes for girl education and SEDGs, constitutional provisions, RTE Act 2009, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

Additional related topics often covered in preparation materials: learning theories (Piaget, Vygotsky, etc.), Bloom’s taxonomy, ICT in education, and subject-specific pedagogy.

4. General Test (Compulsory – Code 501)

  • General Knowledge & Current Affairs — National and international events, important dates, basic facts about India and the world (especially education-related schemes and policies).
  • General Mental Ability
  • Numerical Ability — Basic arithmetic (percentages, ratios, averages, profit-loss, time-work, etc.), simple algebra, geometry, mensuration, statistics.
  • Quantitative Reasoning — Application of basic mathematical concepts.
  • Logical and Analytical Reasoning — Series, coding-decoding, analogies, puzzles, directions, blood relations, syllogisms, critical thinking, data interpretation.

Key Preparation Notes

  • Domain subjects strictly follow Class 12 NCERT textbooks (focus on the rationalised syllabus where applicable).
  • Teaching Aptitude and General Test are compulsory for all candidates.
  • Choose domain subjects aligned with the major you intend to pursue in ITEP (e.g., Physics/Chemistry/Maths or Biology for B.Sc. B.Ed.; History/Political Science/Geography for B.A. B.Ed.).
