There is a beautiful story about this Osha. There was a saint in a country. He had four sons and four daughters-in-law. The four sons were traders. His younger daughter-in-law became pregnant for the first time. Hearing this, everyone in the house danced with joy. After four months, she wanted to eat pumpkin. But there was no pumpkin in the garden of the saint’s house. The saint’s daughter-in-law, out of shame, stole a pumpkin from the garden of the neighbor, wrapped it in a cloth and ate it. The next day, the people of the neighbor’s garden saw that there was no pumpkin in the garden and were angry. Whoever stole the pumpkin from my garden, let Shathi Devi steal her child as soon as he was born. Shathi Devi came to know about this. After a few days, the younger daughter-in-law gave birth to a son. Unable to bear the pain of childbirth, she fell unconscious while she was sleeping, and Shathi Thakurani stole her child. The daughter-in-law woke up from her sleep and started crying when she did not find the child nearby. Everyone searched everywhere but could not find her. In this way, Sadhbani’s five sons were stolen by Shathi Devi. Finally, Sadhbani became pregnant again and as the time of delivery approached, she felt terrible pain. Seeing this, her mother-in-law became angry and said – You have already eaten five children.

There is no more room for you in this house. You leave this house right now. She gave him a thread and said, “Wherever this thread ends, we will give birth to a child.” Finding no other way, the young daughter-in-law obeyed her mother-in-law and took the thread and left. Finally, the tip of the thread went and ended in a forest of fire. It was completely dark and there was no one around. Sadhbani started crying alone. Again, the pain in her womb started increasing. At that very moment, Sadhbani gave birth to another child. But it was not a human child but a carved piece of wood. Seeing this, Sadhbani became very distressed and started calling out to her mother, Shatti Devi. Shatti Devi could not bear her crying any longer. Finally, Shatti Devi came to Sadhbani with her five sons and said, “Are you a monk or a father, where did you come from in this deep forest and why are you crying?” Hearing this, Sadhbani recognized Thakurani and told her the whole story in detail. Then the goddess returned her five sons and said – I stole your five sons, didn’t I? We will never steal anything again in our lives and we will fast on the eighth day of the month of Margashi. Your sons will be well. Hearing this, the sage said – Mother, I am an idiot. I do not know anything about the rituals. Please tell me the rules and regulations regarding this ritual. Then the goddess said everything.

ll Rules ll :-

On the ninth day of the Krishna Pakha of the month of Margashir, women take bath in the morning and fast all day. In the evening, they dig a small square hole like a pond in their courtyard at the base of the Tulsi Chaura and fill it with water. They take small fish from the pond and release them into it. They plant paddy rice around this hole. A sarong tree is planted in the middle of the pond and a piddha is placed at its base. They bring seven dried leaves, wash them in turmeric water, wrap them in yellow cloth and wear them like a bohu, apply kajjwal and vermilion and place them on the piddha. They keep a pot next to each dried leaf. At home, they prepare rice, lentils, kanji; sarong, radish, dried leaves and two chakuli cakes by adding them. They worship the goddess “Shathi Dushain” and offer prayers to her. After the oblation is over, they feed those items to the children for whom they have made a wish. The remaining remains are washed away in the river or buried. The seven pieces of wood that are kept with the bride are not given to anyone. They are washed away in the river. This is the reason why, in this vow, if you steal something that is not yours, you will be punished.
