Raksha Bandhan is observed on the last day of the Hindu lunar calendar month of Shravana, which typically falls in between August and September.’Raksha Bandhan’ is made up of two words “Raksha” and “Bandhan” and it is a sanskrit It’s literally meaning is “the bond of protection, obligation or care.Raksha Bandhan is a popular and traditional Hindu annual ceremony or festival.

The festival of Raksha Bandhan holds a great religious significance as the day celebrates the bond between a brother and sister. Brother sister share a close and sacred bond and have a close relationship as friends, who genuinely understand one another. They grow up together, share secrets have affection for each other, quarrel like enemies and care one another just like parents.
On Rakhi purnima, sisters generally apply tilak to the forehead of their brother’s, tie the sacred thread called Rakhi to the wrist of their brother’s and do arati and pray for their brother’s good health and long life. The Rakhi or the sacred thread represents love and sublime sentiments.The brother in return offers a gift to his sister.
