Sudasha Brata, or Sudasa Vrata, is a unique ritual observed in Odisha. When there is a rare combination of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon), Thursday and Dashami in Oriya.
Calendar Sudasha Brata is observed. Sudasa Brata is dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi.

Sudasha Brata is observed mainly by women for the wellbeing of the family. The main ritual involves the tying of a sacred thread on the hand by women.
The thread is only replaced during the next Sudasa Vrata.

Ten knots are made in the thread, chanting 10 different names of Maa Lakshmi. The woman holds the thread by hand until the next Sudasha brata when it is replaced with a new one.
The 10 knots are given uttering these names of Maa Lakshmi: First knot – Lakhmi Narayani, Second knot – Kaman’ Third knot -Srihari Priyaa, Fourth knot – Padmalayaa, Fifth knot – Kamalaa, Sixth knot-Chanchalaa,Seventh knot – Bighnaseni, Eighth knot – Sindhura Dulani, Nineth knot – Durgati Naashini and Tenth knot -Vishnu Paataraani

Special food items like Manda Pithas are offered to Goddess Lakshmi on the day.

In the heart of Odisha, married women observe Sudasa Brata, a unique ritual dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi. This auspicious occasion occurs when Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon), Thursday, and Dashami align in the Oriya calendar. The central act involves tying a sacred thread on the right arm, after dipping it in turmeric water, and making ten knots while chanting ten different names of Goddess Lakshmi. This thread remains until the next Sudasa Brata, symbolizing a year-long commitment to family well-being and prosperity.

The number ten holds significant importance during this festival. Women offer ten varieties of flowers, ten manda pithas, ten chenna bhog , ten duba grass, and as many bara koli leaves and rice grains. The day begins with early morning rituals, including the preparation of offerings like mashed chenna mixed with banana, grated coconut, and jaggery, made into ten balls, and the offering of ten manda pithas at noon.The puja concludes with the offering of panaa bhog before dusk.
