Verb tenses are tools that English speakers use to express time in their language.
Verb tense tells you when the action happens. There are three main verb tenses present, past, and future. Each main tense is divided into simple, progressive, perfect, and perfect progressive tenses.
The tenses simply show the time of an action or state of being as shown by a verb.
The concept of time can be split into:
Three Types of tenses
Present . Past . Future.
Simple present
Present continuous/ progressive
Present perfect
Simple present – I play, He / she / it plays, We /They play
Present continuous – I am playing , We / They / you are playing, He / She / it is playing.
Present perfect – I have played ,He has played , we / you / They have played
Present perfect continuous- I / We / You / They have been playing , He / She / It has been playing .
Past – simple past , past continuous , past perfect
Simple past – I played, He / She / It played
Past continuous – I was playing , He / She / It was playing, We / They / You were played , I was playing , He / She / It was playing , You / We / They were playing .
Past perfect- I had played , He / She / It had played
Past perfect continuous – I / we / You / They had been gone, He / She / It had been gone
Simple future – I shall go , He / She / It / We / They will go.
Future continuous – I shall be going , He / She / It / You / They will be going.
Future Perfect – I / We / They / You shall have gone, He / She / It has gone
Future perfect continuous – I / We / They / You have been gone , He / She It has been gone.
