Albania (Republic of Albania) is a country in Southeast Europe on the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.

Official Language: Albanian (a unique Indo-European language). Greek and other minority languages are also spoken in certain areas.
Currency: Albanian Lek (ALL). Euros are sometimes accepted informally in tourist areas, but Lek is the official currency.
Religion: Albania is a secular country with no official religion. It is religiously diverse and tolerant.
According to the 2023 census: ~50.7% Muslim (mostly Sunni, plus Bektashi), ~16% Christian (Catholic ~8.4%, Orthodox ~7.2%), significant irreligious/atheist/undeclared population (~17-33% depending on the category).

Albania is known for its religious harmony and was one of the few countries to protect its Jewish population during WWII.

Albania is a popular, affordable destination known for beautiful beaches (especially the Albanian Riviera/South Coast), mountains, Ottoman-era towns, and historic sites like Berat and Gjirokastër (UNESCO sites).
Visa & Entry

Most tourists (including EU, US, UK, Canada, and many others) do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days (in any 180-day period).
US citizens can stay up to 1 year without a visa in some cases.
For longer stays, apply for a visa or residency permit in advance.

Safety

Generally safe for tourists. Take normal precautions against petty crime (pickpocketing in crowded areas like Tirana).
Exercise increased caution in some areas due to occasional crime, but violent crime against tourists is rare.
Road conditions can be poor outside major routes; drive carefully.

Summer (June–August): Best for beaches, warm weather.
Spring/Fall: Pleasant for hiking and sightseeing with fewer crowds.
