Final Seat Tally (All 234 seats declared)
Joseph Vijay’ (TVK) is the current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
- TVK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam): 108 seats (Single largest party)
- DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam): 59 seats
- AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam): 47 seats
- INC (Indian National Congress): 5 seats
- PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi): 4 seats
- Others (IUML 2, CPI 2, VCK 2, CPI(M) 2, BJP 1, DMDK 1, AMMK 1, etc.): Remaining seats
Alliance-wise:
- TVK (contested alone): 108
- DMK-led SPA (Secular Progressive Alliance): 73 (DMK 59 + allies)
- AIADMK-led NDA: 53 (AIADMK 47 + allies including BJP 1)
This is a hung assembly (no single pre-poll alliance crossed the 118-seat majority mark). TVK’s strong independent performance broke the decades-old DMK-AIADMK duopoly.
Key Highlights
- Historic debut for TVK: Actor C. Joseph Vijay’s party won as the single largest party in its first election, marking the first non-Dravidian major force since 1967.
- Vijay’s wins: He contested from Perambur (Chennai) — won by a huge margin (~53,715 votes) and Tiruchirappalli (East) — also won comfortably.
- Major losses for DMK: Outgoing CM M.K. Stalin lost his stronghold Kolathur seat to TVK. Several DMK ministers and senior leaders were defeated.
- AIADMK: Slipped to third place. Leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami retained his seat.
- Others: NTK (Naam Tamilar Katchi) drew a blank again. BJP won only 1 seat.
Government Formation
TVK, with 108 seats, is the clear frontrunner and is expected to form the government (possibly with post-poll support). Joseph Vijay is widely anticipated to become the next Chief Minister — the first actor-CM since M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) in 1977. Formal processes (invitation by Governor, swearing-in) are underway.
